MULE LAMBS
2005 SHOW LAMBS
Breeding quality Mule ewe lambs to sell at Hexham and Bellingham has always
been a top priority at Carry House with 600 Northumberland type Blackface ewes
put to the Leicester tup each year.

Swaledale ewes have also been tried to compare the crossing abilities of the
same tup on the 2 breeds. Our conclusion was that clean coloured Swales bred a
similar lamb to our ewes but with the brown being a slightly harder colour.
Tups that breed good coloured lambs that "fill-in" on Swales breed well to our
type of ewe.

Since judging was introduced in 1986, Carry House has only once been outside
the top 3 places for pens of 20 at Bellingham 1st Sale in mid August, winning
the Show 9 times.
Top Pen 2006
In 2006 some Swaledale ewes were bought for a homebred shearling that was retained after breeding particularly well as a lamb.
Carry House Xfactor X39 is out of a ewe bred at Agglethorpe Hall by Long Green J2 and by Carry House V38, a shearling sold privately to Messrs Skidmore & Dinning.
The resulting lambs are equally as bright and flashy as those out of Blackfaces and most of the show lambs are by Xfactor this year.

W25 (Riddings S12 out of Riddings M23 sired ewe) is another homebred tup to have bred well enough to have been used on Leicester ewes.
